I live in a fairly good part of Palo Alto(5k rent for 3 bhk). We are friends with neighbors many of whom think new people coming to the area are spoiling the culture and greenness of the area and adamantly against tall buildings or having a higher density. Most of my colleagues who don't own house strongly believe that neighbors don't let high-density housing thinking since it might decrease rents and house prices and other reasons like nature and culture being spoiled is BS.
Most of my neighbors use the word Manhattanization and think that's very bad. More tech companies are moving to New York and my friends working in New York like the culture there. What do you guys think of dense housing?
Just found out my zip code(94027) average income is 1.5 million per year and nation’s second highest.

High density mixed use retail/residential centred around transit (along with improving rapid transit options around the Bay Area) is a good solution to meet the demands of all groups.
