NVIDIA vs Apple vs Amazon Lab126

Nov 16, 2021 21 Comments

I currently have three offers and I'm trying to gauge which role would be best careerwise. I don't want to pigeon hole myself and I just want to know which companies/roles would get me the best mobility in the future.

NVIDIA - Systems Integration HW Role, Working on setting system power policies and integrating low power features of silicon into the greater system.

Apple - Display Hardware EE Role,
Design and bring up of display modules for consumer Apple devices.

Amazon Lab126 - Electrical Engineer Role,
Design and bring up of next gen Alexa powered family of devices.

Which do you think would be the best option and why?

    Skip the lab 126 role
Unless you like working on iterative improvements (nothing disruptive)

Voted NV, but Apple could still be a strong contender — display is obviously one of the least non-essential pieces and one of the major unique differentiating factors, so some chances that specific team is good and opportunities are there. Keep a cool head, carefully consider both options on their own merit, listen to that gut feeling. Aside from purely tech stuff, do make sure the prospective team&management are a relatable bunch and that you have none of those weird vague impressions when interacting with them, which you can’t quite verbalise yet. You for sure will if you make the wrong move! And if that happens to be Apple — you’re in a tougher position w.r.t. switching teams due to their secretive and siloed nature. Also think about broader implications of this factor and its impact on longer-term career opportunities — almost any household name out there is still better than Apple in this specific regard. Other than that, take your time and pit all three offers against each other. ;-)
