Any thoughts on what to do with an mba started at 50? Hoping it makes my education more current, but also that I can consult into my old age. Given they say the future is a gig economy..,would love to work when I see the need and travel when I don’t.

I cannot imagine what you would learn in an MBA program that you haven’t learned in 30yrs of working.

I like the curation of material that I don’t have time to do myself…given I have kids, etc. also, being female, the degree helps.

I don’t think a degree will help because you are female - or even help at all. Over-indexing on what the media says about women needing to be extra special to be treated like humans … will make you lose 100K + possible opportunity cost. I don’t see a good path to recouping the money unless you plan on working well into your sixties.

  • Don’t add to your debts. Mba is just a piece of paper. The education system is not going to make you current, your work experience will. Just my $.02

I agree. I spend $50k on an MBA and MS and the ROI is terrible. Could have spent a lot less focusing on learning a skills directly.

This... the MBA is expensive for the networking. If you lack a network at 50, I'd be concerned with your ability to create one during the MBA program. Also, EMBA sounds more suitable for you if you're hard on it.

At your age the only reason to get an MBA is if you're getting into a top tier (like top 10 or 20) school and doing it for the connections. Literally everything else you should already know or be able to pick up quickly. B School is 80% about the connections when you're a mid-twenties idiot and 95%+ about connections when you're in your 30s and 40s.

If you're not looking at Ivy League and world-famous institutions, don't waste your time or your money.

As an MBA I can tell you absolutely not. I got it only because I chose a different career trajectory and my MA didn’t do anything for me. Don’t bother. Stay current with tech, understand financials.
