Question:
Is QA a sustainable career, and is it still viable to get into Big Tech as a QA? Or should I get ready to LC and transition into a Dev role eventually

Background:
I'm a QA Engineer at a small start-up in London, UK. I just got a job at a large cryptocurrency exchange for a significant pay bump + bonus + (pre-IPO) equity

I graduated with a non-CS engineering degree from a top 10 uni globally, and I've been in QA now for 3 years

Manual testing - QA is going away . SDET roles exist and companies are hiring .
I am a Sdet and there is a pay gap between swe and my role .

  • Good question. I moved to swe as I was worried about less and less well paid opportunities for qa. I had impression that the pay gap was increasing between senior swe and senior sdet or qe.

I’d say it’s more sustainable at Big Tech than anywhere else.

At Amazon for example, you have a career ladder for QA and you can stay at it in your entire career, like SWE.
