I got a verbal offer for Google SRE New Grad. (Sorry no TC numbers yet)

I am surprised as I thought I would be in Software Engineering and I do not have much SRE nor Infrastructure experience. My skillset has been primarily in web applications. I think I could learn a lot from SRE, but I do not yet know if I would enjoy it, and partially I am scared that I'm cannot do the job properly.

Should I reject the offer and reapply for a SWE position?

Google’s SRE group are generally thought to be the best in the industry. Having that SWE-SRE background on your resume will be very valuable.

If it's SRE-SWE (which it should be since you were expecting a SWE position) and you don't have any other FAANG+ offers, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Nobody will expect perfectionism from an L3. You're going to get a lot of training. After a year, you can switch to a "pure" SWE team without interview, all you need to do is find a team manager to take you on. Because of your SRE experience, you'll likely be in high demand for a lot of teams.

Google SRE is a gold standard for the Industry best practices. SLOs/SLIs. Opens a lot of doors and offers some challenging problems to solve. Great learning experience.

Don't worry, even if you don't feel comfortable as an SRE, you can switch teams internally after an year.

Enjoy your oncall bonus pay for a year then internally transfer to another division. You may need to do additional interviews to switch to SWE ladder if you aren't classified as SRE-SWE though.
