Ask for more rsu

Apr 29 30 Comments

I was a recent hire in salesforce and I’m hiring for my team. I noticed that my hire is receiving a lot more rsu to match her current comp. She is coming in a lower level than me. Should I reach out to my manager later and ask to increase my rsu? Can he do this without promotion?

PS: Some comments show that some folks are taking this personal Or make other assumptions that are not true. I have been a manager for several years and and IC for a decade and already have people in my team with salaries higher than me. Don’t try to be a smart ass. If you don’t know the answer you don’t need to comment.

If you want more you need a reason. “But she gets more!!1” isn’t good enough.

  • Salesforce is not a fair company then. Two candidates with same experience & skillsets will get paid very differently depending on their old salaries. "very" being the key word.

I'm am an IC I got offered more than my manager tc. He was not happy with it and brought it on every occasion possible that I'm making much more than him. It just felt weird why he kept bring it up, it was jealousy and it isn't a good place for an IC to be under such a manager. If something bothers you, yes go talk to your manager to increase your tc, imagine you might be making more than your manager 🤣🤣 and you should take action by threatening to leave or in fact leave than making absurd comments where no action can be taken - this was for my manager and not to you. I understand you are in a very difficult spot, remember that as a manager your first duty is to make a new hire feel welcomed and not show your jealousy

OP, you gotta learn to negotiate. She did a great job and/or you didn't.

    • Negotiations have started. They started with the recruiter before they even got on the phone with you. We leverage the pay bands which increase annually to remain competitive with the external market. Bummer she is getting more than you but this market is crazy.
