Hey guys,

I'm about to graduate with a Statistics and Data Science Degree, but don't really want to do DS. I had no internships. I'm planning on either going into SWE or DE and doing a bootcamp this summer for whichever one I decide. I wanted to know what routine you guys recommend. Also which career has better salaries and job growth potential.

My fear for Data Engineer is not being able to find a job at the end of the day because my lack of experience.

Thank you!

  • Entry level DE’s are typically filled by people with SWE backgrounds, or people with a few years of BI/data science experience. At many companies, SWE pays the same as DE. Point being; get SWE credentials, and apply for SWE and DE

Try to get a new grad job in SWE or DE or DS. If you can only get a DS role, take it then move into DE with experience.

You might have an easier time getting a job as a SWE. DE positions are limited, and usually end up being filled by people who have a lot of experience.
