how easy was it to get employed with a failed startup but incredible experience in terms of technology? anyone with such an experience? also, how did you put it on your resume? as side project and on the break?
I've had a couple of those. Painful (and expensive) chapter of my life. Just got a job at one of the FAANGs. You put them on a resume just like any other company - start/end dates an all. It helps if you are able to discuss what went wrong - and more importantly, what lessons you learned from that experience. Startups fail all the time (the odds are against you) but you learn a lot. Leverage that experience. Depending on the role you're applying for, there may be behavioral questions ("tell me about a time when ..."), and your failed startup may provide plenty of good material. Good luck!
Good advice. I laughed at the TC. Why include it? And how many years of experience?
As the first comment explains: this is really admirable and inspiring. As long as you’re really good: that is all these big companies care about.. Just list it as usual under experience. Acc to me: it’s usually hard to explain what you learned during a startup.. people will learn and realize the knowledge/experience that you have as they work alongside with you!
Was at a start up for 3 years and it failed. Saw it to the end. In your resume, list responsibilities like any other position. Focus on the successes, accomplishments, and measurable/quantifiable milestones. During interviews, treat the failure as a learning experience, similarly to how you would answer a weakness question -- identify the problem and talk about what you would do differently, etc. I've never had any issue with that part of my career/life. Any employer who understands start up life will appreciate your background.
It's admirable to fail and admit it while recognizing what you gained. Be smart about it.
