LA vs Bay Area

TC within 5% of each other, would you prefer a job located in Pasadena (1-2 days in office) or Palo Alto (3-5 days in office)?

Is it realistic to stay farther from work in LA if work situation is going to be hybrid? Any recommendations?

Rent is all over the place in both places.

Blind tax
Old TC: 105k in Midwest
Soon new TC: around 350k
YoE: BS + 3, MS + 5

Congrats on the offers! Define further away in LA? Commuting even short distances in LA can take an hour but for 1-2 days I would seriously consider living in a fun place (whatever that means to you). Pasadena itself isn't too bad either!

I'm not an expert either. I live too far out but planning on moving to a similar area like you. I'd be going against the commuters though but still travel upwards of an hour. Which you get used to real quick living in the area imo. Definitely think you can find something that's a decent middle ground for you - it's a huge place and has plenty of options with the TC you'll be making ;)

La traffic is horrible. Imagine the worst of Bay Area traffic all up in 1 city. Santa Monica is on the opposite side from Pasadena so I don’t recommend going that far. Go on google maps during rush hour to check out commute times.

If your office in Santa Monica, commuting from Pasadena won't work. It will take up to 2 hours each way. (I used to live in Santa Monica). You don't want to go further than Culver City.

Oh! Than, live in Pasadena. It is a great place to hang out and have a family later. May I ask you what company?
