is bay area worth it for me?

I have a job offer at GoDaddy for 130k and I’m planning to move to SF or Sunnyvale at the end of June. The job is remote. Other GoDaddy employees have mentioned that once I move to the bay area, my salary will go up but lets just think of my salary as 130k (100k base 10k stocks 20k bonus). When I negotiated I said Im staying in Chicago, but then I changed my mind. I’m looking to double my salary in 2-3 years and grow my professional network. Please lmk if moving to SF or Sunnyvale is worth it. I’m leaning more towards SF since it seems more fun that Sunnyvale. I’m trying to make friends too and not just think about TC all the time lol. 21M who is about to graduate

I’m not a fan of SF, what do you mean exactly by “grow my professional network”? Make friends? Find partners to build a start up? Be specific and don’t say trite shit like “grow my professional network”.

Honestly what you are doing is kind of dumb. If you’re going to live in SF shoot for a SF salary which can be double what you are making now. My best guess is that if godaddy does accommodate a salary increase for moving to SF, it will be small.

  • Hate to say this but you can't survive in SF bay area on 100k base. Average rent for 1 bedroom is $2400 month. You could prob get by renting out a room but 100k is considered low income in SF. If you don't mind living like a broke college student for a few years until your income increases, then up to you.

Do you want to be around a tech scene, is weather important to you, where are your friends moving to, is maximizing your money important? It all depends if it’s worth it for YOU, but most people opt to not move to the bay because COL is so high.

    • The weather matters but no so much. I definitely wanna be around the tech scene but also make friends out side of tech. Most of my friends are going back to their hometowns which im not a big fan of. Maximizing money is important but doubling my TC ASAP is more important
