Hi Blind I've got an offer from Cisco (Ottawa) for Embedded Software. Not really sure if I want to take it though because I've read mixed things on Cisco, especially for new grads. I'm not particularly interested in networking but ultimately my goal is FAANG so not sure if I should just stick it out for a few months and try to go from there since Cisco is a pretty big company.

I've also got an interview coming up for a firmware role at a 3D Printing startup which I'm quite interested in. Only thing is no guaranteed offer and salary is going to be less than Cisco.

Offer is for grade 4:
Base: 80k CAD
RSU: 20k USD/4 Yrs
One time 6,153.85 relocation allowance

I would take Cisco just to get that on my resume and more importantly find time to Leetcode for FAANG (while still getting paid ). Being in a slow moving company like Cisco (team dependent) gives you the flexibility to prepare really strong for your FAANG interviews (which equates to higher comp offers).

Did the same thing recently . GL!

  • Didn’t know Cisco started giving RSUs to grade 4 in Canada, even if it’s a small amount. Anyway it’s pretty decent offer for Ottawa. May be you can negotiate relocation allowance. Once there, you can spend some time prepping for FAANG and bail if you don’t like the work. Cisco is still a good name and good WLB.

    • Typically you have to payback relocation if you leave before 1 year. I would say that if you plan to leave within 3 months, may be don’t join. I’m not sure how thorough FANG background check is and if it’ll cause any red flags if you leave this experience off your resume.

Got the same offer a few months ago. 90k base, negotiated to 95k, negotiated 10k signing bonus. Negotiated relocation from 6900 -> 7300. Got the same RSU. Same advice as the others. Good company for WLB but grind for FAANG while there
