Google recruiting policy change?

Apr 4, 2017 19 Comments

I was hoping to interview at Google but the recruiter told me that they are now looking deeper into team fit, reaching out to dev managers etc before starting with the interview process. so I can't interview right now. Does anyone know what this means? Was I rejected by the recruiter based on my resume before my phone screen??? Or is there an actual change in the interview process at Google?

I just left Google as a recruiter on contract. They have a lot of issues that have directly resulted from their bloated interview process. Things are shifting, but link3747 is right: there are literally hundreds of candidates past hiring committee that can't "find a home" with a team. It's ridiculous.

In your case though, I suspect the recruiter is just not moving forward. That answer is pretty vague and no hiring manager reviews any candidate until after hiring committee typically.

Yes and no. The process is so segmented and bureaucratic that the headcounts aren't relayed quickly enough. I could go on and on about this. That place was so frustrating.

Regarding that, there are rumors such as even right now the head counts for most teams are still not finalized so hiring managers can't really make a move, and there have been internal reorg, shutting down projects so people are transferring internally. All making outside candidates waiting longer. I was one of the people who passed HC and I don't want to wait for google team matching so I used googles offer to negotiate with another company I will join.

They really do have a policy change now. I'm not employee so I can only guess why. It's probably because they have so many candidates who passed HC but can't find a team for months, this has to be frustrating for both recruiters and candidates.

Now makes sense why my recruiter wrote "During the project matching stage, you will speak to the hiring manager, that we have initially targeted for you"
    (I just started interviewing)

Good. Google team matching is the #1 reason I was not interested in going to Google for FT. (Intern from last summer)

Clear inefficiency in hiring. Google is squandering its advantage in the talent war.
