Vote with your feet (Microsoft -> Google)
This is kind of a rant but also hopefully helpful for people reading this.
Currently working at Microsoft L61 for 1.5 years (Redmond)

$50k RSU
$40k sign on bonus
$13500 relocation (after tax amount so ~$18000 pre tax)
After 1 year (perf review)
$135400 (around 4% merit increase)
11% bonus
$7800 refresher
I was quite disappointed with the refresher but the merit increase and bonus was good.
Unfortunately the TC was still lower than I had hoped for SDE II, and my new manager sucks. Management is micromanaging and is extremely biased in who they’re promoting.
So I’m voting with my feet and going to Google.
Total YOE 4.5 graduated with Bachelors
Got and accepted an offer for L4 in Chrome OS (Bellevue)
$144k
15% bonus (minimum)
$204k RSU
$20k sign on
Dont really have competing offer since the only “competing offer” I got was from Amazon for SDE I with verbal TC of $180k, which is lowball.
Looking on Blind, this L4 offer seems low but I’m happy with it since the refresher will crush Microsoft’s mediocre target $6500 (vesting over 5 years) and google is about $60k-$80k (vesting over 4 years)
Hopefully Microsoft will get their shit together.

I can validate the accuracy of that post cuz I’m in MS now.
It looks like L64 is target $24k refresher vesting over 5 years.
But google l4 is about $70k over 4 years. And l5 is about $100k-$120k (over 4 years)
For me, In the long run Google comp actually destroys MS comp.
Idk about your comp but that’s definitely something to consider.
Or is it because of the stock price increase?

MS annual refresher is almost about 10x less than Google and it vests over 5 years instead of 4...
