Still a good time to join Hulu?

Feb 4, 2020 20 Comments

I have an offer to join the Santa Monica office as a SWE around March/April.
Any Hulu folks have an idea about the deeper implications of the CEO's recent departure and if it's still a good time to join?

Whoever is saying that SubLife SWE role is redundant bc Disney has the same team doesn't understand business. SWEs who work on SubLife at Disney can't just double their workload and start developing for Hulu products as well. I'd say the products themselves have years to go before any kind of merger of the code bases running them, if ever. The notion of Hulu running on Bamtech is false--Bob Iger misspoke. And besides that would only be the streaming tech, not SubLife parts of the product.

It's a good time to join that team. That team will be behind the international expansion.

True, also the sublife and billing teams support way more billing types and integrations than ESPN+/D+/Movies Anywhere which Disney will definitely want to leverage.

Also Hulu/Disney are pouring money into that team. Like stupid amounts of money. If they were going to be downsizing they definitely wouldn’t be doing it.

Disney has their own problems with D+. Do you really think they are going to mess with a very successful streaming platform that they have dumped a ton of money into? The SL team isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

They're hiring now to get the systems going and once everything is streamlined then they'll cut off people. Long term plan for Disney but you'll be secure for at least a year and half so join now and jump off by 2022 before they fire you
