Anyone here knows something about a company called Skyscanner ? Its a travel tech company. They contacted me for a SWE position in London. Need to know if going ahead with interview would be worthwhile. Any data points about pay, wlb, quality of work, co-workers, management is welcome.
I'll be done with my interviews with them soon. Interviewing for the same position. From what I know it's a good place for teech people in London. Competitive TC for juniors at least and really tech driven. Would be great to hear more from employees.
How was your interview ? If you have discussed TC with them, would you mind sharing the numbers ? Here or over DM.
Sorry can’t give you the employees perspective but wanna tell you a user’s. I used to use Skyscanner all the time but google flights has recently come out with all the same features and might wreck Skyscanner the way FB did to Snapchat. Might be worth a consideration if equity is your motive
In all likelihood, Google will shut down Google Flights like most of their other products
Why do you think so? Unlike Google Fiber or Glass, the ability to maintain google flights doesn’t require much capital so they don’t have huge incentive to shut it down. Basically just a nice way to query a giant database of flights. How does it earn money? Maybe they take some commission from airlines for referring passengers?
Are you in sea? Just go interview for the free trip to London.
Skyscanner is now owned by the Chinese Company CTrip. Skyscanner works cos lots of small travel agents push their private fares to Skyscanner so that they can land a lead. Crowded space though and the air industry might take a turn for the better rendering metaserach like Skyscanner useless. Probably not the answer you were looking for.
Ya it's a booking website, but that's not important right now.
Surely you can't be serious!?
I'm serious, and don't call me surely
It’s a great place to work, good culture, perks and motivating startup feeling even though is already a big company. Skyscanner is huge in EMEA and APAC, starting to grow in Americas now. I’d definitely encourage you to interview with them.
Cool ! Are you in engineering at Skyscanner ?
Not in the engineering team but working close with them for product development and everyone seems pretty happy.
Interviewed with them. Recruiter said she'd call me to explain the rounds and took a date. I waited for their call on the day but the recruiter never called to explain what the rounds would be about. On the day of the interview nobody turned up for the first telephonic round. Got an email 30 mins later that interviewer was unavailable and that I should specify a new date. Had pretty much lost interest by this point. They are owned by a Chinese company ,operate in a crowded market and don't have stellar revenue.
I have a system design architecture interview scheduled with them. Any tips ?
Compensation is good, but I find that things move really slowly and teams tend to work in silos resulting in a lot of work overlap.
I’m interviewing for the Palo Alto office. Any idea about compensation range for full stack software engineers?
@jptr Hi, would it be possible for you to refer me? Happy to provide more details over dm
Its pretty popular for booking trips
Good to know, but I'm looking for data from employee's perspective
