Does anyone had similar experience with Upstart??

Phone Interview: Feedback was very positive

Onsite: Took the onsite on Friday

Monday: Recruiter reached out saying that the feedback was very positive and i was technically very strong asked me to schedule a 30 min call with Sr Engineering Manager and get couple of references ready

Tuesday: Had a chat with senior engineering manager, where we just introduced each other and he talked about the team for 10 mins and then told me to ask if i have any questions. It was a pleasant talk

Wednesday morning 8AM: Rejection email stating that this was a tough decision and after debriefing again that the team eventually decided not to move forward with the next steps.

I did pretty well on all the rounds. Feedback was very positive. I had no idea what happened.

Does anyone had a similar experience or can tell me what would have been the problem??

    The position got closed or they found a better fit or one of the various things that can happen in startups .. don’t stress it

      Yeah even when i talked to the team, they mentioned that they are trying to double. So i was bummed that if they don’t hire ppl whose onsite feedback was very positive. Then who are they gonna hire? Good luck wasting my time and their time. Hope they find a better person than me. 😏

      I too had a similar experience with upstart. I had my virtual onsite last week. The recruiter mentioned I got positive feedback for two of the rounds on the interview day. He said he will let me know the hiring decision the next day. But to my surprise, he went silent for the next 3-4 days. When I followed up, I got the standard rejection email. I was very positive about the other 2 rounds(system design and behavioral). It's my weirdest interview experience ever.

      Always remember that positive feedback does not guarantee that you will get hired. You are competing against other candidates that might have received even more positive feedback. Just don't get discouraged, it is a matter of time before it goes your way. Hiring is not an exact science. The interviewers are human and can make mistakes. Sometimes you're just not as good as someone else who got the job. Don't take it personally. Learn from it, improve, and move on.

    did you have a lot of questions prepped? my recruiter emphasized this to me and told me to show that im really interested, which was easy cause i actually was very interested. sorry this happened op, i was really nervous when i got to this stage too

      "So I wasn’t even thinking about rejection after that." It sounds like you let your guard down. Rejection is always a possibility until you get the offer in writing!

      @Upstart: "i was really nervous when i got to this stage too". I take this as a positive! To me this shows that you understand what is at stake and that it matters to you. I think managers would rather see someone who is a little nervous than super chill.
