I had an onsite interview with Facebook the other day. Out of 5 rounds 4 went amazingly well. coding with a solutions engineer, system design with a engineering manager, cross functional with a technical program manager and managerial with a director. But I screwed one coding interview with a solutions enginner. what are the chances? I know Im mostly out but how does it work? Is having offers from Microsoft/Amazon going to help?
Usually they say that it's ok to fail 1 interview out of 5. You just should be very good in other 4. How confident are you in other interviews? I had the same feelings as you for the PE position. But based on the feedback I was not good at 2 interviews, so the answer was "no hire". P.S. I'm starting at Amazon next Monday.
I am more sorry about you have to join Amazon ☹️ than you failing FB.
I’m pretty confident about other interviews. Let’s see! Will share the result here.
Move on
You may be asked to take another coding interview. Or if you had done really well in other interviews and at least approached the problem right, you may even get the offer. Just one bad round usually don't mean axe.
I’m totally looking forward to something like this instead of direct reject. I’ve interviewed with Amazon/Microsoft/Goldman Sachs in past 30 days and have cleared them all. These bad 30 mins are going to haunt me! I got an update from my recruiter. She has got feedback from 2 interviewers so far and it’s positive. Fingers crossed!
What's facevook like? is the CEO a robot named Mark Vuckerverg?
I know it sounds hard, but don't idolize these companies. They're a dime a dozen. Your life and enjoying it is miles more important. Almost can guarantee you FB will grind away at your soul a bit over time. 'Happens to everyone
Don’t you think there is a possibility that it kind of depends on your team? I know a few people myself who are working with Amazon/Facebook and are being able to maintain a healthy personal work life balance. That being said I’m not idolizing these companies but as per my understanding of the teams I’ve interviewed with, the personal work life balance goes like this: Microsoft> Facebook > Amazon. (Totally specific to the teams I’ve talked to).
Can you give overview of what they asked? At list some idea of what systems they asked to design?
It involved designing a system from ground up. I can’t get into specifics as I signed NDA. But you can find relevant information here: https://www.facebook.com/careers/life/preparing-for-your-software-engineering-interview-at-facebook/ Hope that helps!
