Your standard state DL/ID card is no longer valid for domestic air travel after 1st Oct 2020 You would need to carry another identification such as passport to board domestic flights. New standard cards are now annotated with “federal limits apply” I wonder what it means to people on non-immigrant visas such as h1b and their dependents who may not have social security cards. do they qualify for Real Id?
Yes. You should get real Id.
You qualify for real id even if you’re here on h1b. The only downside is that real id expires when h1b expires, and standard DL has its usual 5 year validity Source: me, NY state DL
I just always bring passport for all air travel just to not have to worry about anything
^If you're on a visa, never travel away from home without a passport.
Y?
Ever come across a police checkpoint while driving around? I would advise anyone to travel with sufficient documents to avoid the hassle from detailed questioning.
Anyone who pays taxes needs to have a SSN/TIN. H1b folks pay taxes. Some states have REAL ID by default. Texas DL is REAL and they don't discriminate in handing that out except for extra hoops. WA on the other hand hasn't discriminated until now. Until now, everyone gets the 6 year DL. However now that they have REAL option, that will be handed out to only citizens
This is fake News. The constitution is very clear on this matter. Check the “full faith and credit clause” We need to crowdfund a lawsuit to get this shutdown.
What is fake news?
That the ID is no longer valid for air travel. It is valid. The feds have no authority to regulate how the States issue their IDs and are mandated to accept them. Its just that the TSA is threatening to not abide by the Constitution.
