feeling behind in TC/ net worth

hi guys, graduated in CS in seattle, worked at a small company for 4.5years. TC started at 95k ended at 110k. recently statted at indeed level 1, TC 150k. Just now i learned that TC is not just salary.... previous company only had salary. because of this started reading blind & TC stuff. Learned that some new grads in my area already make over 160k TC. feeling very behind... if I have made 160k for the last 4 years i would have 200k more in savings. 😭😭😭😭 On the other hand I feel like my experience at my last job is not helpful for a better job (old Perl stack, some other hacky ruby/python stuff, some old java) , leetcode still feels difficult, so I am not competitive... any one relates to this? what do you do? #tc #behind #money

I can certainly say you have lots of time to catch up. One of my mentors was pulling in 120K/yr in his early 40s. He founded a company which he sold for ~ 1B and his take was ~ 280M. The guy was focused and didn’t care a bit about money. He always wanted to build a quality product and brought his 100% self everyday.

I feel you. 120 starting makes me a sad boy

Comparing yourself to others is a recipe for mental health nightmares. There will always be someone making more. You still have more money than 90% of people your age

Don't compare. Ever. Recipe for hardship.

I'm in the same boat as you. 3YOE making $111k; seeing new grads make double makes me sob. LC'ing hard every day hoping I can make it

Don't even try leetcode. It has too many questions now which are extremely difficult and it would easily demotivate anyone. At this point in time, almost everybody is leetcoding and it's just a matter of time that companies try to test candidates on other criterias. Try to work on a better tech stack and gain expertise. 150k is still a fantastic salary and don't think about others. There are lot of physicists who are smarter than you and I might be getting paid less than us. If money is your concern, think about smart investments and remember that there will be younger people who are richer than you. Always.
