[Advice] Microsoft L63 India Vs Uber L5A India

Yo Blinders,

I would like to know what the blinders think about both the companies and the positions offered. Here are a few of the things that I was able to gather about and posting the difference between both positions.

Microsoft
Pros :
Better WLB
Stable stock
Azure cloud is growing (which is what I got into)
Internal move to the US/abroad is easier as opportunities are more
Better/eaisier promotions

Cons:
Tech stack may not be used outside like C#,.NET, which could be a disadvantage when moving out, especially in startups and/or other product-based companies.
Stock refreshers are less when compared, can easily fall out of market standards when stayed longer
1-year cliff 1st year for stocks and then quarterly vesting.

Offerred Comp : 48 Base + 15% Bonus + 50k $ Per Year + 6 JB

Uber:
Pros:
Already know tech stack and use a lot of open-source tools/tech, so, moving out, all this becomes a plus point.
The stock has enormous growing potential (or Not)
Monthly vesting of stocks. No wait time

Cons:
WLB could take a hit.
Promotions take time
The internal move is also generally speaking could take more time (to the US)
Heard Uber firing employees during Lockdown
The stock also may not perform at all (it is possible)

Offered Comp: Yet to give the offer, but thinking would be in a similar range, with maybe 5L diff.

The below are important to me:
Would eventually like to move to the US (that's where the actual IT/Software market is). Don't want to settle but work at SF/Seattle for a while, make little money, and then come back. The faster it happens the better it is for me.
Compensation, at this time, both of the companies are paying equal, could be 5L diff which isn't much. What about the hike/.percentage at these companies?
Opportunities, when moving out, eventually how does the market perceive about engineers in these companies? One advantage is tech/tool at Uber is open source compared with Azure, any suggestions along these?
Growth at these companies, I would want to achieve better levels faster and don't want to stick at one place for a long time.

PS: have already accepted Msft offer, may have to renege if I go the other way. No clue about blacklisting or if karma bites me later. Advise, if people have faced anything due to reneges.

Anything else that comes to your mind, @all please do comment and help me.
Would be great if people already working/ have worked/ know about somebody who worked at/planning to join in Msft/Uber could respond with their pinch of advice

Greatly appreciate the community for everything :).

@nutanix, yoe is not directly proportional to skills. Also, in our industry interview skills and skills required at work are mutually exclusive.

That's true i know.. but there shouldn't be such high variance just based on interviews then.... offer a jump based on on job performance which companies dont do much

It’s no brainer, go to Microsoft. Uber isn’t stable at all and there is no stock growth potential. The blind lounge of Uber is full of people crying about Uber stock not growing for so many years.

  • Moving to US at MSFT requires VP approval currently but may change in the future as covid situation improves. If moving to US is your only goal, try Amazon

Is this always the case or has it been changed in the lockdown period, I mean the VP approval. Also, how hard would it to get VP approval?

    • This is only since covid started. You would have more luck moving to Vancouver than Redmond right now. More and more teams are being allocated headacount in Vancouver
