When is a good time to bring up salary during the interviewing process, I’ve meet with the recruiter and hiring manager. Next step will be team/panel interview. Also do they really mean no negotiating..

  • if you confidently know your band's max numbers, bring it up to recruiter to set expectations so no time is wasted for everyone.

then you use competing offer to kick that inital expectation higher if they meet it

  • I do it closer to the beginning. Don’t want to waste anyone’s time (including mine) if both of our expectations are far off.

If you know the numbers for the band and know what you want, then you giving a number anchors expectations and potentially short circuits the process to avoid wasting anyone's time.

I'd phrase it that you are looking at something between X and Y but once you find out more details you can narrow in on those numbers more.

Just make sure X is 10-20% more than the lowest you would accept.

Make sure to discuss LEVEL prior to the interview, level determines the make up of the loop. Discuss salary after the interview. You should know the band for the level prior to the interview.

  • The earliest you bring up salary is AFTER all interviews are done and bring a competing offer to beat. Refuse to give any number before that, just politely decline.
