Why is Amazon PR lying to the news about increasing base salary to 350K?

Many of my friends are pinging me and assuming I have hit some sort of gold mine. Praising that Amazon had addressed all our money issues. Instead of these press gimmicks treat employees better to retain them or attract new hires.

FYI - I was told that the raise will be around 10% by my SDM.

  • Tell your friends to work on their reading comprehension. The upper cap on base pay was increased to $350K.

      Ok it says in the title but the first line is - "Amazon.com Inc. is more than doubling the maximum base salary it pays employees to $350,000 from $160,000. Intentionally confusing to attract new hires?

      'Maximum base salary' means the upper limit. Does not mean anything for the starting base pay which only increase nominally.

    The PR is just saying that the base salary is no longer going to be capped at 160K. So, for instance, a past 300K salary would not get you more than 160K base. So the rest of the 140K will need to be in stocks. But now, a 200K base + 100k stock combination is possible. The base salary bands may still be limited by role.
