Airbnb’s iOS app is such a mess. I sometimes wonder how can a company which pays its engineers so much can’t fix its app. I love airbnb and I use it extensively but the app drives me crazy. In no particular order let me quickly point out some major major problems - (a) The problem of unread notifications. Once a trip is completed, a message appears asking me to leave a review. Even after reading it and dismissing it, it’s treated as an unread notification. Why? Is this a bug that has now become a feature? Some accessibility and ux studies should be done. People with ocd might as well go mad looking at that constantly lingering red dot signifying an unread notification. People have a lot of things to do and writing a review is not the first thing that comes to their mind. (b) What’s with “contact host” and “message host” button not working all the time. There were times when i’ve needed to contact the host and the button just wouldnt work. I’ve had to go to the website on my laptop to do the needful. Absolutely shoddy attempt at feature parity (c) What’s with app acting strangely with broken signage or redirects not happening properly. If my friend shares a place on whatsapp and i click it, 8 out of 10 times, the app would direct to the right listing. However, sometimes it would just freeze. It would do nothing. wth. Whatever happened to regression testing. (d) Messaging in airbnb is another busted affair. What’s with the double chat bubbles. The same message coming twice sometimes. One instance has “sending” under it and the other says “sent”. Umm, shouldnt the “sending” message disappear when the message is successfully sent. That’s like messaging 101. Again, this happens only in the app. if i open the website on my laptop, no duplicate chat bubbles. Again, i love the company. I use them a lot but i hate their iOS app. I just wanted to vent out my frustrations and hope that some iOS engineers of Airbnb will look at this and create some tickets tomorrow for the next sprint!

Lol, nah - we really do care. We’re working on a lot of things at the same time, and are trying hard to balance launching new stuff with fixing old stuff. A lot of things end up on a back burner, and sometimes slip through cracks entirely. The curse of hypergrowth. But things OP listed are not acceptable and I’ll share with the teams. Those are fixable issues. Most of us feel enough pride for our product that we don’t want to get called out on Blind.

get a hotel / hostel / vrbo, abnb not worth the hassle.
- They are a fair middleman - Their customer service is top notch - Hotels are still conservative when it comes to payments and are still a step behind Airbnb imo - I have made friends through airbnb experiences that I can never hope to make otherwise.
how can customer service be top notch if they’re not on site, how many times have u used abnb? ever wait outside while the owner is MIA?
