If you don’t wanna travel, don’t go that route

    • IMHO, 80%-90% travel is much better than 30% or 50% travel. At 80% travel you build your life around travel, and your friends and family understand and you still stay cool with them because the expectation is you’re out of town. At 30 or 50%, it’s a terrible middle ground where your schedule is unpredictable and you never show up for anything.

I’ve done 10% to 90% travel and everything in between.

    • I loved partial travel. I did 20osh weeks a year. Just enough to switch it up regularly, but o still had tome to get stuff done at home.

To be fair, I knew travel weeks 2-3 weeks in advance and we would negotiate what week we were coming after huddling internally o discuss responsibilities.

It is definitely 100%. Don’t believe them if they say they are ok with 50% travel. They will day later that the client is requesting to travel every week. If you are ok with 100% then join.

  • You’re not going to be able to get it written into your contract because it’ll be project dependent. But you could absolutely network to get on projects that are local. Also the future of traveling is going to look different. There’s a lot of talk at the leadership level about giving people more flexibility in determining how much they travel. Nothing has been set in stone yet. And no one is traveling until at least January, even then you could always say you’re concerned about the virus and not travel.

What level? You'll never get it in writing, but travel is definitely being reduced a lot post Covid. I think it will be a few days at client site per month, few days for collab in hub office, rest at home. We are never going back to M-Th every week despite what other posters are saying.

Fair chance to get local roles and for now, little to no travel.

    • @Zgcd26 do you actually believe that? if you have a client that says they want the team there every week, you’ll be there every week. That’s the whole point of consulting, you do what the client wants. Your manager doesn’t control it. They can push for the team, but at the end of the day the client can talk to the partner and have them removed from the project.
