I recently accepted an offer from Upstart and will be joining soon. I am super excited to join.

Would love to hear current employee sentiment? What should a newbie know?

Also, I’ve been curious - why did Upstart open a Columbus office?

Buckle up for the roller coaster. First thing you should know is that they will not offer any flex work options post COVID. Hope you are stoked to commute to San Mateo everyday. After that, you are going to have to put up with a ton of shit to earn your comp. Management is a joke (they don’t believe in long term planning), promos are based on favoritism, wlb sucks (but this may vary based on team a bit). The product org is an organizational disaster, which spills over to eng because the front line PMs never have clear priorities (there are official OKRs and then other “goals” they need to hit based on manager’s pet projects).

The office was to expand the talent pool near OSU. People there are very nice, but I'm not there anymore so can't comment on current sentiment.
