Another Masters for Canada Pr

Feb 12, 2021 26 Comments

I am 31 and thinking of applying Canada Pr .Considering the recent cutoffs ,express entry seems hopeless for my age .But doing another masters (I already have a Masters in US)in Canada boosts my points in express entry .Is this a really bad idea ?
Also ,does already having a masters increase my chance of Study visa rejection ?please help, looking for advices .

  • Why not just get a job there first on work visa and you can convert to pr in an year or so I think.

This is incredibly useless. Why will you spend 20-40k on a degree + opportunity cost of around 300k USD to study in a country where your job after graduation will net you something like 100-120k CAD?
So 2 years to study in Canada + 4 working years will probably make you eligible for citizenship. In those 6-7 years you will earn 3x more in the US and then retire wherever you want

    • Op is over 30, after another 6-7 years, he or she will not be able to retire “wherever they want”. They want to be able to qualify for a pr and likely won’t without a Canadian degree, the point of it being a different story if they came on a pr is moot

Name and shame those companies that do hire in the 200k+ range.

  • just get a job at WITCH and transfer to Canada, you will get PR in 3-4 months, no need to waste money in Masters, many people are doing that even without degree

Learn french and clear ielts for french at the same level as english and you get 50 points. I read that somewhere on blind, i live in EU so have no clue about canada from personal experience.

    • To be honest, it can take a lot of time more than a year. It depends on how much effort you will put everyday. I started learning from Duolingo more than year ago, and I’m doing few lessons everyday but, I’m nowhere to speak it more than a sentence. I can understand movies but, with only subtitles.

https://www.state.gov/foreign-language-training/ Not sure about what your native language is, but for english speakers, 24-40 weeks 600-750 class hours.

FWIW, it took me several years to get there, but i wasn't as intensive.
