No formal acceptance or signing for offer

Apr 9, 2019 18 Comments

I've been given a written offer from Amazon which I gave my verbal acceptance. However, I haven't received any digital documents to sign. I asked the recruiter for the digital documents and he said it's pending and will be slower since my start date is a few months out.

Is this normal? I understand it's at will employment but I'm kind of worried that nothing has been done to make it official on their end.

It's been over a week since I gave my verbal acceptance and I have already turned down other offers. In my past experience, digital documents come almost immediately because recruiters want to lock you down.

You need to decide what you want to do. Do you treat it as if there is no offer since they haven’t provided one and go with another company? Or do you tell the recruiter that the lack of digital documents makes you nervous and that you want it so you can be done with interviews?

I had similar experience. In my case, they immediately kicked off my background check, immigration process etc. This is just after verbal acceptance, never had anything to sign

^ I think that's the norm nowadays. An email acceptance of the offer seems to be sufficient

  • No this isn’t normal...(sorry for the long response. Ha)

Did the recruiter follow up with an email stating that the digital documents will be delayed due to a late start date? If not, I encourage you to send a follow up email.

“I’m excited about the position and look forward to joining the team in August (?). One quick question: When can I expect to receive the offer letter? I’d like to review it and understand the timeline in which I need to make my decision.” ..something like that.

You want to get an something in writing stating that you have the job, but offer letter is delayed due to start date...

If they still won’t send you something, you may want to reconsider.
