How generous is the PTO policy at Airbnb?

Thinking of making the jump over, but read there's only 2 weeks of PTO at Airbnb (is this 10 days or 14?)

How flexible is it if you want to take up to 21 days a year?

Are there additional personal flex days? Are managers fairly accommodating to take untracked time-off?

Much appreciated for any insight

3 weeks PTO, 2 extra floating free days, 11 company holidays and a shutdown between Christmas and New Years. About 8 weeks a year.

LotzOfFun did you learn math in elementary? Good job double counting holidays + days off and randomly adding 1/2 and 1/3.
Also no one counts days off that way; it’s always only PTO + floating. Stop misleading people with your terrible math.

I’ve stated from the beginning that AirBnb offers 3 weeks of PTO for years 1-4, 4 weeks after that.

Is there any danger of layoffs in Uber now? Why the switch?

I was at 3 different startups for a little over a year each before joining Airbnb.... all promised fantastic growth and an imminent exit but was totally BS. Almost joined another unicorn but they hesitated. I told them if the health of the company (growth and financials) were what they said it was they had nothing to worry about as that is why I left the previous 3. They hesitated which made me totally lose faith in the company. So yes it depends on the company and the manager but in my experience if you switching jobs consistently bugs them, then they usually have something to hide IMO.

I feel that managers who like long tenures basically place more emphasis on tenures and stability of employees, and not on skills and merit. Top tier companies should be merit-based, but that is not always going to be the case. Adding to that the level of chaos in the high tech industry, I feel that reasonable tenures are ok (about minimum 1.5 yrs per company), but most people will disagree with me on this.

Also to add some of my guesses. I feel that people with longer tenures usually have more inertia, more procrastination, less risk-taking, slower to react to situations and slower to pick up new tech. Those are not really positive attributes. The good about long tenures is stability.

The holiday shutdown means that many people combine with PTO and take a 3 or even 4 week vacation at the end of the year. That would be very hard to do elsewhere.

Working remotely for a week here and there is also common.
