I had a few buddies that jumped ship to Microsoft on jobs that were contingent on this contract. I should probably check in with them....

Really the moral of the story here is that Google's cloud sucks so much ass that Gov doesn't even want to hear a bid lmao.

I am surprised the Pentagon can pull back a contract this size just like that. 10 Billion is not pocket money. Lots of engineers in Microsoft are going to be impacted.

This is why the government can't keep up in tech.

You would think that in turn for long, painful contract fulfillment processes you would in turn get reliable agreements. But the DoD has a horrendous track record of pulling out of deals, not paying, and being a shitty counter-party.
It's not the moral dilemma that stops tech companies from working with them, it's that it sucks to work with them.

The issue isn’t because DoD is trash. It’s because the commercial industry can’t readily meet the level of compliance required without significant investment

It's compounded by the fact that some of specs are classified and disclosure of the existence of them would be a security issue. GE is absolutely right, a 10 billion dollar deal that takes 11 billion dollars to come to market is a loser. These contracts are almost always less lucrative then on the surface.
