I’m a senior engineer at Lyft now. Been here for 4 years since graduating. My TC is around 400k and my net worth is around 1M.

I don’t see a path to Staff or management on my current team. The company is not growing much and there’s offshoring. I’m just resting and collecting paychecks.

I want to do something with scope. My goal is to have the skills to manage a 15-100+ person org and do something a bit more cross-functional (i.e. manage product, engineering, and P&L).

If I fail, I am fine to go back for an E5/6 job somewhere else.

Give me advice.

    You saved 1 million dollars in 4 years (presumably you were T3/T4 for most of those)? How is that possible?

      So do you think I made a mistake choosing Google over Lyft? They matched Lyft offer and L3 to L4 seems to be 1-1.5 years which is similar to Lyft then I could hop to a faster growing pre-IPO perhaps?

      I think starting at Google is fine. I’d hop for L4 300-350k offer in 1-1.5 years like you said and go for senior elsewhere.
