How do you stay excited for life? Or it more about just making peace and being content with what you have? I have a lot and I am grateful — friends, family, a job that pays well albeit stressful. I feel disappointed in my (lack) of love life and physical body, but its been this way for so long I’m skeptical it can change. In general I wonder “is this all there is” to life. Even when interviewing for other jobs, it all seems like different feathers on the same chicken. How can I find enthusiasm and energy? Is it unreasonable to even ask that?
Could try getting plastic surgery and workout for the body image issue.
I think about all the great things President Trump has done for the past 4 years and all the amazing things he will do for next 4 years!!
Go to the gym, eat well, and learn the social dance. It's really dumb but whatever.
I know I am not providing any valuable input here. But I feel you. I also think it is a part of the loneliness epidemic our society is facing!
I had similar thoughts yesterday and found it helpful to write down the things I should be grateful for
In a way, you’re already in the future. Every day is a once in a lifetime thing, it’s up to you to not make it repetitive. You are probably grateful to your past self for your job, think about what your future self would be glad you did and invest in it.
short term goals?
You should double down on the physical and love life. But you gotta commit. Get that down solid, have kids, forget all about what it's like to be lonely and questioning the future.
It depends on how old are you, what stage are you at in your career and if you can sustain without working for sometime. I often suffer from similar issues. Don’t get too hung up on TC and please try to get some friends outside of the valley. We live in a sort of tech bubble and it distorts the reality for us. Try finding some way to escape this bubble like sports, books. Pursue a hobby or try to learn something new (without competing with anyone). Tech workers get trained to look for impacts and high rewards with everything that they do. Try to do something that may not have any rewards or returns. Try to give back to the society (not necessarily money).
Get a dog. Seriously! My dog saved me when I lost my son. I would have been dead if it wasn’t for her.

I think you might be depressed. Try reading this book called Feeling Good by Dr. David Burns. It helped me a lot in the past year dealing with depression.
