How long does FAANG boost your resume?

Thinking about a career change out of software engineering into a related STEM discipline. If it doesn’t work out and I need to pivot back to software, how long does the FANG resume glow last for recruiters?

  • Recruiter here. I’d say 5-10 years, depending on a variety of factors. For example, was it 1 FAANG company for 1 year? Or was it 3 FAANG companies for a combined 10 years? Stuff like that.

      I see shortsighted ness in the previous response , it’s wrong to assume visibility is not there or different challenges weren’t taken in longer tenures . As a recruiter one shouldn’t be thinking that. Let the team and interviewers evaluate that? As a recruiter do you even know the road map for the orgs long term goal, what there pain points are or what the hiring team is planning to achieve? There is no one answer for this - “it depends”

  • I can’t imagine it’d help much if you’ve been at another company for several years. I’ve found HMs care mostly about your most recent work vs. what you did 3-5 years ago. Just my personal experience.
