I need to understand something basics before I leave my company.

1) I have an eTrade account and I have some vested stocks in it. What happens to my eTrade account if I leave my current company? As per my understanding all those vested stocks are mine and I can sell it anytime but if I join another company then my same eTrade account will be used for that new company's stock like RSU's or ESPP? How does this work if I join some other company?
2) Also what happens to my 401k fidelity account? Will my new company 401k will also be linked to my current fidelity account?

I think my answer needs a clarification: transferring to IRA is better if you want to convert it to Roth and access the principal before retiring. Am I wrong about that as well? @Opnd70, J7hG6s

If in CA you open potentially to creditors, but I believe if you roll it and maintain the rollover account just itself, it keeps ERISA protection (I’m not a lawyer)...Roth IRA if you want to buy stocks or access somewhat early. If you mean withdrawal early (like 5 years I think) then year

    1) Yes, if the new company also uses the same broker
    2) No, but you can transfer the old 401k funds to the new 401k if you want
