About a third of the categories each span short-, mid-, and long-term targets. Stankey said short-term opportunities within this year include “headcount rationalization” and “benefit restructuring” that’s already happening, though he noted “we have some additional work we can do in that area.”

Other near-term targets include third-party and supplier costs, and changes to call center structure.

    They have no clear strategy or path to saving the burden from video. Stankey was the one who led the DTV acquisition foolishly. There's only so much they can do on wireless. The only thing they can do easily is cut costs... Doesn't take intelligent minds to do that. Articulating a clear strategy and executing on it is for excellent leaders and teams. AT&T doesn't have that. Smart talent at AT&T leaves for better companies that pay well and value talent.

    What do you say of a guy who bought DirectTV when it’s common knowledge that cord-cutting is the order of the day? Who buys into a dying business model and inherits a loss-making venture with its thousands
    employees with bloated salaries and elevated positions? Someone with that judgement error is being groomed to take over the enterprise! How about the disastrous T-Mobile purchase deal? I have no fear for myself but my friends who have no credible alternative to working in this camp and are near retirement. Everything seems like a sinking ship, we need to stop throwing good talents over board and just sacrifice the “Jonah” in the ship as dinner for whale.
