What is a normal net worth for someone that is not an engineer but on the business side at 30 years old? I am an L4 in Google Partnerships.

I am asking because I am the highest earner in my family. I am first gen and I don’t know what I should be aspiring to or if I am behind.

My total comp is ~200k

  • Tbh, you are ahead of the majority if you have a positive net worth. In general, 30 year olds should have 1 year salary in retirement accounts if your goal is the standard retirement age. Anything over that, you are doing excellent and don’t need to worry about it unless you have different goals.

  • If you have no debt and $10,000 cash you are above average compared to most Americans. It is at this point, no debt, that you can really start to accumulate.

Since this is blind you are going to hear a lot of people with 1M net worth at age 30, but they are the exception not the rule.

Most of my friends in their 30s are still paying off loans & renting and I would consider their NW negative.

    • Most Blind posts should have an "exception not the rule" asterisk. Doesn't help that big tech has exploded in the last decade.

But yeah, OP, you're certainly doing fine relative to the average 30yo but best to set your own personal goals and see how you fare! I'm personally probably behind most Blind posters but far exceeded my 30yo goal I set when I first started working 7years ago. Now I need to set new goals for 35 and 40!
