Has the bar for FB E5 SWE gone down OR are people lying ?

I see people from a lot of (not so popular tech companies) (no offense please) like capital one, American Express, Gap, target etc get FB E5 these days. I don’t see people from these companies go to Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, Snap and other popular internet companies. Has the bar gone down for FB E5 or are people in blind just lying ?

I recently did an E5 interview. I have 10 yoe and I work for a data infra team at LinkedIn. My TC is 440k. My day job is pretty hectic and interview prep was decent but not great. Overall the interviews went well according to me. However I got a reject. No concrete feedback. Also the interviews were not that easy. I feel really bad.

Is it the case where people take tons of time in preparing all the materials out there to crack these interviews? I feel very bad

You can game the process pretty much if you solve Facebook tagged questions on Leetcode twice (enough to solve two in 45 min). The system design round isn’t too hard for E5 either.

That, coupled with higher headcounts mean that more people are going to get an opportunity to work for Facebook.

All companies - faang included - eventually drop the hiring bar over a long time frame because you need more people to expand into more business opportunities. And for companies, business > everything.

  • You sound like an idiot. I'm from one of the companies you mentioned and I can proudly say that we have tons of awesome talent, and I have lots of former colleagues who cleared E5/IC5 + at Google, FB, Apple, Twitter, and even your LinkedIn. Use your company tool and you will see a lot of ex-capital ones at these places. You are just sour that you failed FB, and I got in

What you said is true - they’re the exception than the norm.

At least at Google, what I’ve noticed is that the folks I’ve worked with have consistently been excelling at every area in their life (high school, undergrad, grad, work etc.). In that sense, the interview process skews towards consistently high achieving individuals.

Also, my previous response was directed towards FB’s response who just generalised as “stop listening to Googlers. They have way more employees from GAP ..... Robert E is an example”

I felt like I was looking at a salty kid who couldn’t clear G and just wanted to justify that Facebook has some arbitrary higher bar.

    • nice assumption. I cleared google bar many times including even having a return intern offer. your offers at the same level as FB were weak. googlers arguing high bar when gcp is becoming new oracle is funny.
