Is there any reason why working at Google X be a bad idea for 2 years? It sounds pretty awesome. Exit options are probably back to FAANG, go to VC, or start your own company. There seems to be no downside, especially as you get probably get paid Google salary until the company spins out and has its own RSUs (Waymo, Loon). Thoughts?
I doubt the going to VC route. Otherwise I think it's great.
reminds me of how Amazon itself claims it's a conglomerate of interconnected start-ups. My a**. 😂
I agree with this. The project I was on had many coasters. They were just clinging on to the Google culture. No drive to actually push things forward and get results. Just nap pods
What you’re working on goes nowhere and your spin your wheels on something that will eventually get shut down, or not get enough investment and commitment to make it really work?
Yea but like vs staying at google building some only on this tech island thing while pushing protos is somehow better? Like anyone really cares about landing it’s all launch launch perf mcperf
If you’re comparing google vs X, then yes you are right. I would say optimize for what you want, G is big enough that you can probably find something close to it - whether that’s good wlb, interesting technology, or faster moving team. The only thing it won’t offer is the upside of a growing company that has found strong product market fit.
To the toilet. To be honest, most projects are / will be a failure except some high profile projects like Waymo.
What happens to the team after the project gets killed? Are they all assigned to new teams? Laid off?
You get a go look period around 3-4 months to find another job within Alphabet. During this time your only responsibility is to find another job.
do you have to go full round of interviews at Alphabet when looking for a new job ?
If you work for Google, can you refer people to X, the moonshot factory company?
