https://twitter.com/whyhiannabelle/status/1228108429505351680?s=21 was surprised given the container hype right now to see a layoff at google in this space. any info?
Never understood why companies the size of Google have to layoff people. Dont they have other products this person can work on?
They got lucky, only container for now!
A few dozen product marketing people in Lorraine’s marketing org (not in Cloud) have 2 months to find a new job.
Lol, why do they have to layoff yet have hiring committees that screen you for portability across all teams in Google? Maybe they're tightening on hiring as well: a couple of days ago, I saw one post about no head count.
Likely they don't want someone with 18 years experience in a L4 position. Your comp is probably out of this range.
It’s L6... does that sound more appropriate?
To be fair, she’s not an engineer, most probably a program manager. I don’t think Pgm goes through a general hiring process like eng, hence they don’t have that transferability between orgs.

That’s not lay off, that’s reorg which happened all the time in Google. Don’t know what’s the big deal
This WSJ article mentions a "few jobs" were eliminated. But not clear how many 🤔 https://www.wsj.com/articles/google-cuts-jobs-at-cloud-computing-group-11581719153
is there really hype? isn’t it mature tech by now
The question was about layoffs, not about wether containerization is legit. Obv we all agree and are running k8s/docker in one way or other . But back to the point, why would GCloud be laying off in the container security space!??
do u not see a connection, ease up on the ego and u might
