google l4 vs amazon sde3 (l6)

TC in amazon would be slightly higher, but google stock vest schedule is better. Both teams are interesting. Cureently SDE2 and expecting to be senior in the summer. 4YOE. Thoughts?

I asked to be interviewed for sde3 as I already had l4 from Google and definetly I wouldn't consider Amazon without sde3

Depends on your current level, yoe, comp difference, and if you are ok with downlevel. In general, higher level is better and you can apply for Google L5 late.

What stops google from downleveling me 2 years from now? Thinking maybe better to join now, have better perks and get l5 here.

Seems like a good plan to me. L4 to L5 doesn't require a committee anymore too!

Who's TC is more? I'd rather be under leveled with more pay than over leveled at amazon - might be a pip target.

TC

Never down level. That aside, L6 at Amazon is a great position to grow and have strong/measurable impact.

For the same comp, why not take a more relaxed job and not being piped out ?

Amazon thule Dec 17, 2019

I work 40 or less every week, and plenty of Amazon does. It's really team dependent on what your WLB will be, so not being relaxed is more of a risk than a certainty. Though our benefits do suck compared to the other big Ns I've been with - if that matters enough to take a lateral career move, then more power to you, it's very tempting after seeing the Dropbox office. Amazon specifics aside: If he does take the gamble, at worst he'll have 6 months of stress or bad experience. However, he'll come out with a stronger resume at the end of those 6 months, which he can then use in his next interviews at a less risky company where he doesn't get down leveled. Unless there's a chance you'll be laid off like at Uber or WeWork, you're guaranteed to have job safety since neither FB or Amzn typically PIP people in that timeframe. For these reasons, it's genuinely bad career advice to be down leveled at any FAANGMULLAs imo (unless you're switching specialization/role family).

Base your decision on the work, the team and the impact you can make. If you don’t enjoy the work, you aren’t going to care about a little comp difference.

Did Google match your Amazon offer?
