I am starting my career. just received H1B and have joined good company with machine learning role. I am from India and given the future growth and opportunities in India, worsening visa and social situation in US, should I be developing my financial and career base in India for next six years or apply for GC and keep waiting 10-15 years while making every decision of like contingent on visa status?
you can just get in line for green card while keeping an eye at home. nobody will stop you from giving up GC
If current laws don't change you are looking at 50 years + before you get a green card if on Eb2.
Get a Canadian PR going, Buy a house(pay the minimum $$ you need to afford a good neighborhood), Keep your other assets in stock and bonds. And finally stop thinking about GC, it's just not worth chasing if you're from India. There are other countries you can afford to live with the money with better quality of living and work life balance than US.
Got my gc in 1978. Had to renew twice going to go for citizen soon. I program G-code and currently making 95k with 200k stock bonus. not bad for a high school dropout right
I don't think you need to worry about financial, you can get a home either here or in India, you can own property anywhere regardless of visa status or just save up, whichever suits you. Career jumps are going to be difficult if you are looking to jump to startups/ promotions/ even changing org within the company needs a change in the GC process.
Till i got green card i kept most assets here in stocks/liquid (other than home to live in). I am concerned about geo and social conditions even more in india than here. Also its far far easier to convert dollars to rupees than the other way. Good luck!
