Hello hello

I’m curious to hear from people who work in tech, especially SF, Seattle, NYC & co how recruiters genuinely perceive these Google certifications ?

They promote it as a way to start working in the field in a few months without a precious background in the field or degree which sounds promising but not very realistic

So the question is: in your respective companies, have you seen people actually get hired with these or do you see these candidates as a joke ?

EDIT: TC: 30k (I live in Belgium)

Google UX certification is just like any other bootcamps out there. It won’t land you a guaranteed job, even Google won’t hire you with that certification. It is just another way for them to make money and show the world how great they are. Companies care about YOE, no matter which university/ bootcamp. You can pick any good bootcamps and try to get YOE and build a solid portfolio by joining start ups/ freelance work.

Get a job at a small company, get experience, and then you can set your eyes on the big companies.

I’m a business analyst right now so I’m more on product requirement, data, customer insight side rather than design. I’m trying to get more opportunities to collaborate with our designs but I definitely need to work on some personal projects & start building a real portfolio

Recruiters and HMs generally don’t care about certs at all and care more about portfolio quality or past work experience.
I have known people who did similar certs (general assembly) who got hired after, by applying a lot and building a good portfolio.
