Context:
They gave me the offer literally right after the final interview, apparently was a strong hire( according to the recruiter)
They accepted my base salary expectations and added 10k signon
Then sent me the benefits doc, I went through the benefits and noticed benefits are way lower than my current benefits. Discussed it and they asked for my explanation to 100% accept the offer I countered with 60k more than the initial expectations .
I countered on Friday and still haven’t heard back.
Are they walking away? My counter was too high or it’s a normal process? Like they want to hold me up in the air?

You fucked up the negotiations. Don't give your expectations then ask for more.

They can still come back but it's not looking good.

They gave you what you specifically asked for, then you asked for 60k more! I would have walked away and they should too. I can think of 0 circumstances they would entertain this, and how your benefits could be worth 60k

That’s what I thought, but shouldn’t the recruiter keep me updated about that? ( the recruiter is not from the company it is third party recruiting for them)

What is the typical TC on levels.fyi for your level/company? If it goes way beyond their typical range, it may take sometime for HR to clear you. If they don’t send you anything by Thursday, you should send them a check in email

    • Haha. So is it in range or not? And is the range you are using from asking the recruiter the salary band, or mining data on levels.FYI? Can you be honest with yourself yet or is it too soon for honest reflection? I have a hard time rationalizing a difference in benefits causing a 60k higher offer.

Depends on the amount of datapoints but I think levels.fyi is generally accurate and 60k increase could be a lot or little depends on the level.

Honestly the exact same thing happened to me before. I gave my range pre-interview (mistakenly didn’t say the generic “as a starting point” that you’re supposed to say). They gave me the number I asked for after I passed. Then I said “oh wait sorry my benefits are higher than I thought, can I have 10k more” basically. Then they gave me the 10k.

I think the issue was asking for 60k more but the reason being benefits, not another offer or something more concrete.

They should’ve just said “no, this is the final offer.” It’s also only been like 2 days, just wait a few more before panicking.

They will probably go back and have further discussion with comp team. If above their budget they will need more time for approvals
