Hey i would like some advise on my dream job which is google. Actually im a cs student graduating in May 2023 and i just started doing leetcode my question is should i try to get a job there by first becoming an intern ? Or should i just take a simple internship somewhere else and keep grinding leetcode then apply after my graduation. The reason im asking that is because someone told me regardless that you’re an intern at google you will still have to go through the whole process for a full time position and also if someone can please i need some referral i’m also a veteran national guard im nyc thank you 😊

  • Targeting a specific company is tricky since there is a lot of variability in the interview process and even the perfect candidate cannot guarantee themselves a job at Google.

However, it's quite reasonable to end up at a Google level company by doing internships, grinding leetcode, and networking.

Obviously having a Google internship is going to be hugely beneficial because you get Google experience and network with Google engineers and potentially future managers and coworkers.

I'd also think about if Google is really where you want to be, or if you're buying in too much to the Google mythos.

@zVEo60 Google is indeed a great place for engineers who are early in their careers. However a lot of the technology and techniques here are only applicable here. There are many amazing products that are coming out of the startup world where you can probably more easily make an impact. I don't meant to dissuade you from working here. I do think that you can be a very fine engineer whether you ever work here or not.

@Djatah yeah that’s also true but we also have to acknowledge that many startups run with limited budget and that can be an issue for a new grad who might not be 300% productif which is something that starups want due to the limited budget

Yes you need to interview again at the end of the internship. Google internship is better than no google experience though

  • Yo, I'm out of breath after reading your post. Lol.

I'd just lc as much as you can then try google, worst case you don't get in but still not missing an opportunity for each summer. Don't rely on google, try other companies as well.

Intern -> full time is always better imo. You only need to do two coding interviews and your internship performance is accounted (as long as you do well)

But first, get the internship offer from goog or somewhere else first.
