Affirm made a verbal offer for L7(Staff Engineer) role and is offering:
Base:180k/yr
Equity:
375k first 3 years
225k first 2 years
According to their tiers I'm in the navy area which is the top 3/4 location tiers so they are not willing to budge on the base pay but I told them the cost of living in my area is same as any of the areas in their 2nd tier and so they should pay me accordingly. But the recruiter says they cannot do anything about it.
I wonder if should just ask for more equity especially considering they have terrible refreshers. Thoughts?

My recommendation is to give them a number and say you’re happy to be flexible between base and stocks
