Question regarding L3 to L4 promo at Google
I was recently offered an L3 position at Google coming in with a bit over a year of industry experience. For other companies I interviewed for, I was given more senior offers (like E4 at fb or equivalent at some startups). I ended up choosing Google, however, due to the extremely strong package I received (~260 TC) and better work-life-balance.
My question is how quickly can I expect promotion to L4 having joined with what appears to be a stronger offer otherwise usually associated with down-leveling (or in my case doing good with interviews and negotiation)? Also, would promo increases be %-based for salary and equity, or is it more dependent on your manager just coming up with his/her own numbers that they see fit? Does coming in with such high comp (like getting top-of-band L3 equity) downplay promo increases? Thanks.

Salary increases are determined by formula at level and rating with manager discretion on top of it.
If your base is already high (like 130k+) donβt expect a big base bump after promo to L4 (about 6%).
And do you get equity increases determined by similar formulae on promotion?
Iβm negotiating for 270tc as t4!
Well done ππΌ
