A few of my friends were taking about how they feel a lot less pressure from their teams after WFH started. Personally my team is chill to start with, but I have a hard time turning everything off at 5PM as I should, since work and home is now blended together. What have been your personal experiences with this? #remotework #wfh
Worsened but just because Zoom has Zoomed 😫
And have heard the same from ppl who work on other WFH technologies. Too much workload
Thank you for your service 😂 seriously god’s work Hope they 💰 you well
No commute, but starting at same time or earlier then finishing a lot later. Usually can take 1 hour for lunch though. Overall WLB is ok.
Improved. No commute and same working hours. No getting ready for work.
Working later more often, but that is somewhat self imposed
Slightly worse. Sometimes, we'll get asked by management to stay an extra hour, or to work Saturday or Sunday (with comp off days provided by doing so), and I think people are more likely to do so now that commutes are gone and we're all quarantined.
Holy cow. I’ve not been asked to work a weekend at Microsoft ever. Sounds like a scene out of Office Space.
Well, I work a pretty shitty job that isn't software development (or whatever most people are on here), so I can't really say if this is typical for all of Amazon/AWS. I'm with AWS Premium Support as a "Cloud Support Engineer" -- it's glorified tech support, just with lots of micromanagement and overwatch. I'm trying to find a new job ASAP.
There used to be some delineation between work and home life, now it’s gone. Not working from home, just living at work.
Hard same. To hard to disconnect now. Especially in a small apartment.
FYI, there are some things you can do to help with this. The goal is to trick your brain into creating that separation. Some things you can do include: rituals for when you start the day and end the day; working in a specific spot during the day, then leaving that spot when the day is over; putting certain "work clothes" on at the beginning of the day and changing at the end of the day; maintaining a strict schedule (e.g always start at 9 and always stop at 5).
I think you have to make an effort to separate work from home life. Make clear delineations between them.
So much better. I use my commute time to work but at 5pm I shut the laptop. Only 2 or 3 days since March have I worked late. It's just so much more relaxed now. If I have a meeting I just need to listen to I can get a workout in. I spend more time with the family. I don't want to go back.
Why didn’t I think about a workout? Genius!
It’s worsened for many voters because they have no idea how to effectively WFH.
I’m one of those people. I wanted WFH forever, then I had it, and now I’m worse off. I’d love tips from people who WFH and found a way to be better off. Especially those with kids, for whom I think there are different challenges.
Remote for 3 years. If you have kids, it’s almost impossible. We built an outbuilding office on our property and everything improved dramatically. I don’t think wfh is ever going to work, but remote working in an office not in your apartment/house absolitely does.
