headphones for seniors with ear pain

I want to buy headphones for my 70-year-old dad. He used to like bose over the ear headphons. Now that's giving him ear pain(he had pain before too. Few years back we switched to bose headphones from direct phone). what are other options? are bose sunglasses good for calls? he likes phone calls. what else can work?
