hi all, i am on h1b and worked for a startup for 4 months few years back because i got a really good offer and switched then. now ive started my job search again and given im on h1b, can i hide those 4 months from the resume? i know i have to present all my 797s for the visa transfer process but i do not want to add it on my resume to avoid the questions about the 4 months during the interview. please help what should i do?
It's your resume. You can add whatever you want. What is the problem?
The new company will definitely find out through my H1b status, concerned about that part?
But visa is different from getting interviews. They are not the same thing. Your resume is for recruiters. Once you pass the interview and accept the job offer, then you deal with immigration lawyers. Those are two separate processes. Right now sounds like what you need is to polish your resume to get recruiters attention and get job offers. Once you pass, the company will do whatever they can to get you a visa.
Sure why not. People removes outdated info from their resume all the time. A few months gap is not a problem with any recruiter.
It’s not very old just 2 yrs back, hopefully it’s not a problem!
I am in the same boat as you. Just got an offer after hiding a one month break on my resume
So no issues during the process, are u able to join the new company?
I deleted my comment but the OP said they were H1B and while my comment was a bit nasty (BTW I am not a Trump supporter) I hate people abusing the H1B system. It's not fair to people who are following the intent of what the system is for.
Why do you think OP is abusing the visa. They left a job they did not like or when they a found a better job. Would you have made a different decision?
In most surveys, it has come out that over 70% of people lie on their resumes (could be anywhere from a very teeny tiny lie to a big one). So definitely people not on visas are lying too. And OP is talking about leaving out an old and probably irrelevant piece of information to the new employer
@Op why would you even care? Did you do something unethical or get whacked?
My concern is I hide it on my resume but the team find out during the visa transfer process. Maybe I’m overthinking or maybe not!?
Op I want to help you but am unclear of your situation. For example what is your reason? What did you do? If it’s just a 4 month gig nobody cares but I can’t advise if I don’t know. :-)

Tipping culture is really getting out of control! Waiter gave me ‘a look’ because I tipped her 10% for ‘BAD service!’
No one is going to look for that break. It's almost ignorable . If anyone asks just say it was short stint that did not work out . Don't volunteer that info . You can even say that you took a break and was in India before joining. No one is going to ask anything other than your recent i797 for transfer
Thanks, don’t they check ur legal status since the beginning ie all approved 797s
If you had an h1b filed for that period why do they worry . It's upto USCIS to verify it . I think you are over thinking it
