Meta Seattle/LA Decision

Mar 21 15 Comments

I’m trying to decide between Seattle and LA. I’m also considering remote (in either location), but I’m afraid of missing out on getting to know my team outside of a formal setting or making new friends. Would I be allowed to come into office at any time or is that only available to those who selected in-office?

What are the transportation services provided for either office?

I think Seattle is ORCA, but can anyone confirm if they also do shuttles?

For LA, I have no clue so if anyone has any insight, that would be much appreciated.

If anyone has any advice or experience, feel free to leave a comment.

Seattle is so much better for quality of life. Can’t speak to Meta stuff though.

LA is ugly. The most underwhelming place I've ever visited (and I thought it would be great before i went there)

I lived in Seattle and moved back to LA. I disagree people in Seattle are more laid back - they are the most depressed and neurotic people on the planet

Imo it's more beautiful in LA, but that's personal preference. Yes, Mt Rainier is beautiful, but you can only see it 30% of the time. The coast of California is beautiful, Angeles crest forest is beautiful, the light everywhere is beautiful, and there are lots of suburban single family homes with yards all over the city. I don't think there's more outdoor stuff in Seattle - you can surf and ski in a single day in LA, and Griffith park has very good trails for being in the city, and Malibu has beautiful trails too. Joshua tree is not far. Seattle trails are crowded. Plus it's actually nice outside in LA so you want to be outside. Go to Alki Beach then go to Zuma Beach, tell me what's better.

I will give you it's easier to get around the city in Seattle. No doubt. But if you don't have road rage, LA is fine, just choose to drive in off peak hours and pick a neighborhood with good food (everywhere) and gym (also everywhere) so you don't have to drive during peak times. Traffic in Seattle is bad too, it's just a smaller city.

Seattle is like a cool breeze of a city, especially if you are on the east side and an introvert.
