I am on the market to buy a car. how much should i spend and what car to buy? i am super confused with the range of choices. i am not attached to a particular brand but a little curious about Tesla. Any experience of owning model 3, please comment. (this would be my first car) constraints: commute: 15 miles (to and fro) keep the car for a long time occasional use for long drives either new or used is fine do not own a house, no provision for charging the car if electric in my rented place, I will have to invest myself if I need one. work has plenty of electric charging stations live in south bay age : 27 TC: 235k
No matter how fancy ur car is, u r stuck in traffic. Model 3 is the best ev sedan. And i dont see any competing car arriving soon ( not in 2020 for sure)
Get ur fancy car use it for 2-3 years on lease and then settle on relible car like honda toyota. Enjoy ur life :)
Buy used only, try to stay under 5 years old. Since you're only renting, it's not worth installing a charger, so avoid the Tesla.
If you are single a 2 door convertible would be fun. But it will be a challenge if you have a family or pets (big dogs). If you want to buy a house soon and want to haul stuff to do things by your own hand such as building a deck you will need a truck. But if you don’t have much use for it there’s no need to get a gas guzzler. Toyota’s are very reliable like going to 300k miles with basic regular maintenance. Most fancy German cars will become a nightmare to maintain after first 100k miles. Midsize SUVs are quite popular these days for their versatility. A grand Cherokee trackhawk is one of my most recent favorite. If you want to have fun on the freeway it was 700+ hp. If you want to have fun driving off-road it’s a very capable vehicle with air suspension and different trail modes.
+1 stick to Japanese and avoid German like the Coronavirus. There's a reason BMWs and Mercs lose 75% of their value so quickly.
+1 Kia and Hyundai, great value for money and reliable.
I did not realize how great Tesla is until I bought it. It made sense to buy since I was already going to spend more than 40k and it has no fuel etc. But oh man, I did not know I would enjoy it so much! Everyday I think how wrong I would be if I spent in the higher range and still didn't get this.
You can charge at a super charger or at your job but you’re better off waiting until u get a home charger. the model Y is coming out soon so they’ll be a lot of used model 3s on the market, so if you need a car badly I’d try to find a cheap car for under 5k for now
Yea, charging will be a bit of pain if you are renting and your apartment complex doesn't have chargers. In Seattle atleast
Yea I want a tesla so bad!!! But I’m still in college and live at home,so I have to wait
If car is just a moving thing to you: Stick to Honda, Toyota, used is fine, less problem in the long run, easier to sell. If you LOVE car, single, or no plan to have kid yet, go get yourself a sport car, 90-99% of people won’t be able to have that chance again with a kid. I vote for 718 Cayman or Jaguar F Type. Time to get some fun with your life
718 Cayman S is next on our list for sure. We dont have kids (yet) but have 4 other cars in our stable and we miss our sports cars so time to splurge
Get the roadster
I could try to help but my advice would be coming from an enthusiasts point of view so you may find it not relevant (or unwelcomed) to first time buyers and/or non-enthusiasts.
